Tonia

You’re not listening

I can tell by the way you tilt your head

       like you’re trying to escape

This is our life together, you and me

So why are you running away

like I’m an assassin to your dreams?

Don’t we walk hand-in-hand?

Isn’t that what marriage means?

Or is there a crack in the asphalt so wide

it’s threatening to become a sinkhole

swallowing everything beautiful about us?

I miss the you that opened the window for me

and helped me escape my jail of a road gone wrong

        I’m not yelling

                 I’m whispering

        I’m waiting

I’m asking

Where are you?

You’re slipping away so fast I can’t keep up

        like you’re a downhill skier

and I’m a snowgirl stuck on the mountain top

I’m right here, damn it, I’m right in front of you

But you’re not listening

And I don’t know what to do, what to say

I’m watching our life going up in flames

and you don’t seem to care

Are we now ashes in the wind?

Are we now becoming only echoes in the cosmos?

        Listen to me

        See me

Before it’s all gone
