Oregon

Standing on a cliff
Feeling the violence of the ocean slamming against the rugged wall of rock
A light spray touching me so soft in the midst of the thunder
I am awed by my fragile humanness
As I watch the waves terrorize the mass of granite
holding back the ocean from the destruction of my home
And yet
And yet
I want to touch this ferocity of water wanting to claim the land
wanting a way in to take what is mine and destroy it
Not because of a malevolent desire
But because this is how the ocean lives in this channel
It cannot go forward so it slams, slams, slams against the barrier
And I understand
And I love it for what it is
