Foghorn

Tendrils of foghorn calling to me
in the quiet of the night
So high in the mountains
I listen
Beyond the fog
Beyond the danger
I am caught in its web
of warning
My heart wailing against the loneliness
of the siren call
Come here
Stay away
I breathe
and shiver in the coolness of the dark
I am sixteen
and as lost as a ship at sea in the fog
that comes crashing on the rocks
unseen
