I burned my life into ashes
and watched the fire swallow all that was me
Did I cry
No
I yelled
startling the last of the dying leaves off the trees
And then I danced with my dog
in a field littered with nature’s refuse
Freedom isn’t always what you paint
Sometimes it comes on a flaming horse
thundering across the land
stopping only to watch you breathe in the miracle . . .
I am finally and always enough
